Bike Shop Hours Re-Expanding!
1-1 Service; First Come, First Served
Week of 5/3: Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 AM - 6 PM
Week of 5/10: Back up to normal hours (we think!)

VW Family. We're still social distancing, but we're really missing a few more hugs around here.
We will accommodate your schedule, but would appreciate efforts to come in the morning or afternoon, depending on your bike needs listed below.
Morning 10a-2p: In-person quick repairs, Neighborhood Service, those depending on bikes for their livelihoods
Afternoon 2p-6p: Drop Offs, Pick Ups, Donations, Sales, Earn-a-Bike
Right now, these hours still exclude shopping for used parts, using tools, or entry into the bike shop until you're invited in.

Six Village Wrench graphics like these will be posted around West Greenville. Can you find them all? Post a selfie and tag @villagewrench on Instagram!

Rob Cobb
Rob serves as the mechanic and go-to guy for Momentum Bike Clubs. Since programs aren't running, he has volunteered dozens of hours in the shop, solo wrenching and getting donated bikes ready for earning. He has made it so much easier to stay on top of repairs. Thank you Rob!!

We don't currently have volunteer opportunities, but community involvement is looking brighter! We miss you!

Year-to-Date Bikes Earned: 32
13 bikes earned in April alone! We're particularly proud of the four from Miracle Hill Overcomers Center and two more from Soteria!
|
|
|
There's a huge demand for bikes, and if you're not riding yours, there's no better use than to donate it to Village Wrench! We will find a good home for it!

So many good moments in the shop today. Abe earning his bike is a particular highlight. He is a long time West Greenville neighbor and helped "mulch and stuff" to call these wheels his own. When asked what he thinks about his new bike, he grinned shyly, eyes a little downcast, and said, "I like it." We're glad you do, Abe. Have fun riding around the neighborhood!

Social distancing at the bike shop.
As an essential business, we are open to customers and participants with appointments. Our goal during this time is to prioritize our neighbors and individuals with urgent repair needs. During 30-minute appointments you can receive service and repair while-you-wait, check a bike in for service, or test ride and purchase fully-refurbished used bicycles. As always, we have low- and no-cost repair options for our neighbors of all ages.
To protect you and our staff we are maintaining a 6-foot distance, disinfecting surfaces and washing hands frequently, as well as minimizing contact. For now, that means no shopping for used parts, using tools, or entry into the bike shop until it's your scheduled appointment. Please stay home if you feel sick!

Help Our Neighbors Facing Hardship
We're always grateful for your support, but especially now as we ensure that our neighbors can keep on rolling. It costs $250 to keep the shop open every Tuesday.
|
|
Your gift will help our neighbors feed their families!
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many of our neighbors are finding themselves:
-
Suddenly & unavoidably out of work
-
In desperate need of good, healthy food
-
Caring for children who are not in school where they normally get food
|
|
Our goal is to distribute 5,000 fresh food boxes to our neighbors facing hardship! Every $100 donated will fund TEN healthy boxes for a family in need.

Cecilia Link
Cecilia, an 8th grader who organizes our West Greenville shed on first Saturdays, has been interviewing other volunteers over Zoom to record why they love Village Wrench and what their COVID coping advice is. Go Cecilia!

We don't currently have volunteer opportunities, but we have utilized this time to transition our forms over to Google. If you know someone interested in Village Wrench, have them fill out the new form!

Year-to-Date Bikes Earned: 17
We are partnering with Momentum Bike Clubs so their students can earn bikes and keep riding around the neighborhood while home. If you know people who would benefit from a bike, encourage them to get to work weeding in a neighbor's yard, and set up an appointment to earn a bike!

Program Suspended :(
Our self-control and curiosity character plays are especially applicable right now. Students and mentors are still staying in touch and practicing this week; check out the assignments and join us!

One of the most mutually beneficial things we can do as our daily lives and routines are disrupted is to help someone. Try some of these tips out!

We had the pleasure of a visit from Robert (or Can Man, as he refers to himself) this morning! He bought several wheels to work on some bikes he has rescued. He said the new hours made it much easier for him to pop in. We look forward to seeing him around the shop more often!

Joseph Bozzelli + United Ministries
Read Joey's story on Village Wrench's blog.
By completing the hours needed to receive a bike, Joseph got his new set of wheels, helmet, lock and lights in January. “I’m overwhelmed,” said Joseph on earning his bike. He now has a way to get to and from the grocery store, the clinic, and other places he needs to go.

Prayer
A Liturgy for the Labors of Community
Let all the we do here,
in these our brief lives,
in this our brief moment to love,
in this the work you have ordained
for this community,
flower in winsome and beautiful foretaste
of greater glories yet to come.
O Spirit of God,
now shape our hearts.
O Spirit of God,
now guide our hands.
O Spirit of God,
now build Your kingdom among us.
Amen.

Luke Woodard

- Using his engineering background to design a new bike parts kitchen for us (praise!)
- Thinks all things bikes are rad (because they are).
- Except cycling road crashes and concussions (because they are NOT), which he endured a couple weeks ago.
- And STILL came out last Saturday to lead! Thanks for all you do with and for Village Wrench, Luke!

Nasiah and Elijah with their earned bicycles! These brothers worked hard - they came to the West Greenville repair day three months in a row, learning some bike repair; helped in their church garden; and did yard work for an elderly neighbor. They each completed EIGHTEEN hours of service, and we are incredibly proud of them!
